BY SEA
It is essential to book all ferries in advance.
There are two commercial ferry routes to the Isle of Barra, operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. From Oban, on the mainland, the Castlebay sailing takes just under five hours. If you are already on the Outer Hebrides, catch the ferry from the island of Eriskay to Ardmhor on Barra. This sailing takes about 45 minutes.

BY AIR
Situated in the wide shallow bay of Traigh Mhòr, at the northern tip of the island, Barra Airport is the only one in the world where scheduled flights use the tidal beach as a runway. Loganair's flight schedule is governed by the ebb and flow of the tide. Departing from Glasgow Airport, the twice-daily flights take approximately 1hr 15mins.
